The hottest property in New Zealand Rugby will stay with the Chiefs for another two years.
Damian McKenzie has signed on with the Chiefs for the 2017 and 2018 seasons, extending his contract with the club for another two years.
The 21-year old says that the environment and quality of the coaching staff was key in his decision to put pen to paper.
“The team environment is one of a kind and the wider organisation has been very helpful with my career so far”, McKenzie said.
McKenzie says he has a lot of respect for head coach Dave Rennie, and thanks to the help of assistant coach Andrew Strawbridge, McKenzie has taken his kicking game to another level in the past year.
“They’ve been awesome in helping develop my game and I’m really looking forward to my future with the Chiefs”, McKenzie said.
McKenzie has quickly become the person to watch in New Zealand rugby, and his current form certainly warrants an All Black selection consideration sooner rather than later.
McKenzie is Super Rugby’s leading points scorer with a total of 120 and seven tries scored. McKenzie has also beaten the most defenders this season, as well as the most running metres and carries.
Kicking from the tee, McKenzie sits at 71% after taking the majority of duties so far for the Chiefs this season.
