Craig Joubert is rugby’s public enemy number one following Australia’s semi final victory over Scotland.
Joubert awarded a controversial penalty against the Scots, ruling offside, and it allowed Australia to kick for goal and win the match. The kick was successful, and ever since, fans all over the globe have been calling for Joubert to be axed from the tournament.
Replays clearly show that the penalty is harsh.
There is no evidence that the Scots were in possession, and secondly, what exactly could Scotland’s forward Jon Welsh do to avoid making contact with the loose ball?
Considering how much the TMO has been used during the World Cup so far, often for things far less unclear, Joubert’s quick decision to award Australia a penalty has rightly earned himself the wrath that has ensued.
Australia threw the match away by throwing the intercept try, Scotland deserved to win the match, and the TMO should have been involved.
Australia will now play Argentina in the semi final next weekend.
