Kyrie Irving will undergo surgery on his fractured kneecap and will miss the rest of the finals series against the Golden State Warriors.
Irving left the court during overtime in game one where the Warriors charged out to a 108 – 100 win.
Irving went into game one under an injury cloud but looked every bit the superstar throughout prior to fracturing his knee.
Irving scored 23 points prior to leaving the court.
The Cavs have never won an NBA title, and it has been 40 years since the Warriors made the finals.
LeBron James notched up his highest points in a NBA finals game ever with 44 points.
But when the game went to overtime, LeBron and the Cavs went stone cold, barely managing to make a basket for the entire five-minute period.
In a shocking contrast, Warriors star Steph Curry only managed 26 points on the night but sunk the buckets when it mattered most.
Game two of the series is on Monday NZST.
