Otorohanga are off to a strong start in the Waikato Premier Grade after beating Varsity 40-25 this afternoon.
Despite having Waikato ITM Cup regulars Whetu Douglas and Hame Faiva in their line up, Varsity could never get off the line and were beaten by a far superior Otorohanga.
Poor execution in scoring situations coupled with questionable decisions with possession saw Otorohanga run away late in the game.
Varsity first five eighth Jase Roberston kicked possession away and continual drives to the line off lineout ball wasn’t enough to see Varsity claw back into the game.
Otorohanga looked good with ball in hand, in particular their fullback Te Amo Wilbore who showed nifty footwork to break through the Varsity defense on multiple occasions.
The game wasn’t without controversy.
Three sin binnings were handed out in the match, including a scuffle after an extremely high tackle by Otorohanga prop Villiame Seuseu on a Varsity player which saw the big forward ejected from the game for ten minutes.
Otorohanga will play Hautapu next weekend while Varsity will square off against Marist.
