Mooloos thrashed by Auckland

Waikato have been absolutely thumped by Auckland and have been sent packing from the ITM Cup finals picture.

George Moala was the man of the night for Auckland, dotting down twice as Auckland romped home 60-19 at Eden Park.

Waikato had a dreadful night, beginning before the game when due to a hold up in Auckland traffic, the Mooloos team didn’t even arrive at Eden Park until just half an hour before kick off.

With more experience right across the park, Auckland took control from the very beginning of the game. The dominance came in waves, putting the result beyond doubt before halftime.

Waikato coach Johnny Walters ripped into the Mooloos in the sheds during the break.

Poor defense and constant basic handling errors haunted Waikato in the first half especially.

Credit can be taken from a small comeback, with tries to “the Tongan bear” Loni Uhila, Anton Lienert-Brown and Hame Faiva, but the performance tonight was seriously hindered by errors which made the game plan that the Mooloos had near impossible to get off the ground.

Auckland have secured a semi finals spot, while Waikato will close out their 2014 ITM Cup season next week against Bay of Plenty.
